Waiting for Chekhov

There are no new beginings, only old endings.

A group of travelers have met at a crossroads and they begin to tell their stories. Deep in mid winter in an unspecified land and time, this ramshackle group of strangers find that the one thing they share is that they are all on a journey and all they have packed are their stories.

Waiting for Chekhov explores Chekhov’s short stories and exposes how chance meetings are nothing of the sort and that all humans are linked in a chain of recurrences.

Chekhov wrote about the tragedy and absurdity of human lives, but also the constant search that all humans undertake, towards hope and truth. This is the journey our strangers are on and the only guidance they have is this: there are no new stories, only different ways of telling them.

Waiting for Chekhov was the first production from Cilgwyn Theatre Company and was performed at the Union Chapel Studio Theatre. We had some great audiences, worked with over 400 students at 16 schools and details of future plans will appear soon.
