Cilgwyn Theatre Company was set up in 2006 with the intention of creating unpretentious, entertaining and affordable theatre. We do this by re-visiting old authors and forgotten texts and breathing new life into them. The one guiding principle of our work is that it is accessible. This is what we call ‘Involved Theatre’.
By accessible we don't mean dumbing down; we mean making theatre available to the widest possible audience in the maximum number of ways. Cilgwyn works with members of the community and young people to engage and involve them in the creative process from start to finish.
By entertaining we don't set out to be the next West End hit, but neither do we want to create didactic or alienating theatre. We want to produce work that is exciting, involving and resonant and that respects the audience's intelligence and experience.
And by affordable, well, that’s exactly what we mean.
Cilgwyn is continually trying to find ways of making theatre more relevant, more open and more interactive. We use new media technology to allow members of the audience to follow every step of the production from casting through rehearsal to the final production - an access-all-areas pass to the process of creating theatre.
